The ugly side of international soccer showed itself this morning with the detainment and questioning of French international Karim Benzema over allegations of his involvement with a sex tape blackmailing of Mathieu Valbuena.

According to The Telegraph Benzema reported to the Versailles police station at 9 am where he is under formal investigation from the prosecutor for his role in the blackmailing.
Benzema isn’t the first player brought in during the course of the investigation, Djibril Cisse was also brought in under suspicion of involvement in the blackmailing scheme.
“I have nothing to do with it, Mathieu is a friend of mine,” Cisse said while interviewed on the French chat show Touche pas a mon poste.
“I just warned him that there was something hot going on involving him. That’s it. End of story.”

It certainly isn’t funny as the prosecutor has made clear that the minimum sentence for being found guilty of this type of blackmail is five years.
Police have yet to find any evidence of the tapes actual existence, but sources say that Valbuena and members of his family have been contacted about paying to prevent its release.
Sources say it’s likely that Benzema spends the night in lock-up as the questioning and investigation develop.
