The Chelsea Blues midfielder Mikel Obi has been named the captain for the Nigerian National football team.
Obi has taken over the position from Ahem Muska (of CSKA Moscow) due to new Nigerian coach Samson Siasia believing that the captaincy should be held by the player who has made the most appearances for the squad.
28 year-old Obi has made 72 apps for Nigeria, and will be captain for their two preliminary matches against Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He was a key contributor to the 2013 winning side in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
