The Leather Cleat that Nike Left Behind

The Nike Tiempo Legend is hands down the most instantly recognizable leather cleat that Nike has to offer.

Now in its 6th generation, and still one of the most popular kangaroo leather cleats available on the market today for soccer players looking for a modern shoe with the traditional benefits of leather.

But the Tiempo silo wasn’t always the only one to be crafted with a leather upper. Before the market started turning more and more to the Superfly’s V’s high-top collars and Obra II’s synthetic material uppers Nike introduced a leather cleat at an even lower price point than the Tiempo Legend: The Nike Premier Firm-Ground soccer cleats.

The Premier firm-ground cleats first appeared on the scene in the summer of 2015 to offer players from youth to adult an easy entry level pair of soccer cleats with a kangaroo leather upper. They stuck to all black, all white, and the black and white pictured above and below.

Some saw the Nike Premier as the answer to the Adidas Copa Mundial, given the similarities in design and colorway.

Inexplicably, Nike never released another colorway or style of the Premier FG cleats. Their style number (599427-018) is one of the few stand alone numbers in Nike’s catalog, and will soon be out paced by new releases whose style numbers are in the nine hundred-thousands.

One theory would suggest that Nike saw that their Tiempo Mystic cleats were serving the same purpose and were built more closely to the Nike Tiempo Legend, so that when players were ready to invest in the top end cleat they would be more familiar with the fit and expectations.

The good news is if you’d like a pair of Nike Premier firm-ground cleats, they are still a variety of sizes left at Previously we had thought ourselves sold out of them, but a few additional sizes arrived for inventory last week. There won’t be any more, so get them before they’re gone!

This post was brought to you by, where you can find a variety of Nike, Adidas, and Puma styles unlike anywhere else!
